It's 10 o'clock at night,I'm comfortably tucked up in bed with a book and I get the following call.. Jess: " Hey Mom,what's up?" Me: "I'm sleeping, why?" Jess: how much money have you got in your bank account Mom?" Me: "None (private joke between the two of us) Why....? " Jess: "I'm in hospital getting stitches on my eyebrow..how does the medical aid thingy work?" Me" Hmm,why?" Jess: " I got banged on the head during a hockey practice just now!" Me: " You practice hockey this late at night at 'varsity?" Jess: " Yeah, but I need money or something Mom!" Me: "No, you just need your ID nr and Medical aid info." Jess: " oh ok,I'll phone you just now, Love you Mom!" Me: 'Be brave daughter mine, love you too!"
My heart is sore,my baby has to be on her own getting stitches put in her face in a faraway hospital!
I need to be there with ice packs and peanut butter cookies!
At least if she is talking and worried about you bank account you know she is OK :) I know you would still like to be there though :( Diane
ReplyDeleteAwww. I think Diane above has a good point though. She'll be fine. Just a bit banged up and probably looking for you to hold her hand (even if it is by phone)... :)
ReplyDeleteShe looks pretty tough. More like pretty and tough. She will be fine, but I bet you didn't sleep as well as you might have.
ReplyDeleteYou probably ended up having a worse night than she did, awake worrying. You might want to send her some of those peanut butter cookies, though. I bet they'd be appreciated, just about now.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it's harder on you than it is on her. I do agree that cookies in the mail would make you both feel better!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Mom...it goes with the territory! I agree. Do send cookies.
ReplyDeleteOh dear....I have to agree with the above comments....and Lori's last one- do send cookies;))
ReplyDeleteOh, I understand! I would want to be there, too... and all you can offer her is a medical ID number. :(
ReplyDeleteThinking of you... here's a cup of coffee and a bit of friendship to cheer you up. xoxo
Thank you everyone for all your positive thoughts! She is up and about again today!
ReplyDeleteAt least she called and you know what is going on!
ReplyDeleteIt must be hard to learn to 'let go'....on both sides!
ReplyDeleteThe cookies don't help though! lol
Ouch! That must have hurt you almost as much as it hurt your daughter.
ReplyDeleteNothing can replace a Mama's tender care no matter how grown-up our children are.. right?
Peanut butter cookies go a long way in healing a hurt.
hugs,
Pam
It must be difficult particularly when something happens like that.--Inger
