Backing the youngsters usually goes very smoothly, every now and again though we get in a really difficult horse who entertains everybody (except the rider) with hilarious outbursts! My family and I always wear safety gear around horses, note that this rider who came to help backing this particularly difficult filly, refused to wear a hat saying in a typically African manner that "the riding helmet constricts his thoughts...." The rider did not fall and Stonecroft Snapdragon went on to earn my Husband his Union colours in Endurance racing, winning ALL her starts after completing her Novice phase...! Like a lot of really special horses,Stonecroft Ghost included, she can be really difficult at times. She has broken Hubby's ribs on one occasion and broken his collarbone on another...i am SO glad it wasn't mine..!
