Sad News..

Yesterday afternoon at 12:30 Mielie's heart gave out...I guess he was just too old and it was time for him to go. This is the not so nice part of having animals, I will certainly not post about every single animal on the farm that dies, but the old man was very dear to us...On hearing this, his former owner called Cules and GAVE him a son of Mielie. So a bit of consolation there for Cules at least...

Mielie and his ewes last week...

Minki stayed with him the whole morning until the end..

  1. Definitely the hardest part of having animals.

  2. I'm sure we all hoped he could make it. You have my deepest sympathies as I know how this feels. He was a very beautiful boy and you gave him a good life. Minki must have cared too. What an adorable pup.

I think it is well worth it to have animals that you can love and care for...don't you think we add so much quality to each others lives?

    Rest in peace, sweet Mielie.

  3. Oh I'm so sorry. I know you and Cules must be hurting. How sweet of Mielie's former owner to give Cules one of his sons!!! His legacy will live on in your herd (and in your hearts too).

Minki is such a sweetie... Animals fill your heart and break it too when they must leave...

  4. I am SO sorry to hear about the old man. I agree, this is the not so good part about loving an animal... but I have a feeling that he knew how much he was loved by you all. You could not have given him anything better than that.

  7. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. I'm sure it is small comfort to have a son to continue the line.

  12. So sorry to hear about Mielie. I don't know much about farm animals, but I have dogs, cats, and just like someone having farm animals, you get very attached to them and love them like they are part of your family. It's really a very sad thing.

  13. So sad to read about Mielie. I was reading some of your posts on the weekend with my boys and my 3 year old was so taken by Mielie he played at being sick Mielie for ages. He drew a picture of 'Mielie and Farmer' that same day and he wants me to send it to you. I will have to scan it and email it to you. Mielie very quickly appealed to his young heart.
